Key West, Home of Unique Diving Opportunities
Key West is an island in the Straits of Florida famous for watersports, amazing beaches, and crystal-clear waters. Worlds away from the mainland, the island provides diverse and unique diving opportunities. Here are just a couple of them:
Divers can explore the mysterious Joe’s Tug
The wreck was supposed to be moved from its original location to serve as an artificial reef. Before that happened, there was an attempt to steal the boat and during this process, she sunk before reaching the intended destination, where it lies to this day, receiving regular visits from divers.
USNS General Hoyt S. Vandenberg, the most famous of shipwrecks in Key West
The wreck is the second-largest artificially created reef in the world and is a point of interest for scuba divers of all experience levels, although beginners are recommended to be accompanied by a guide. Besides the fascinating ship itself, divers will be able to encounter here some of the largest barracuda fish, big angelfish, and a plethora of small fish species.
