The
Sea, my passion how
long till I return to The
Sea. My name
is Blane Perun. I have been in love with
diving and reef aquariums since the early
1990's. I created The Sea.Org and it's
sibling sites to share my diving and reef
keeping experiences with the world.
At The Sea you can
read about allot of topics, one of my
favorite the Caribbean Sea. Christopher
Columbus gave the Caribbean Sea the name
of the Antillas or Sea of the Antilles,
and this is another name that the Caribbean
Sea is known by today. It was Christopher
Columbus that made the waters of the Caribbean
Sea known, because before this the Caribbean
Sea was truly unknown to Eurasia. Once
the Caribbean Sea was found the Caribbean
Sea quickly became a great way to travel
from continent to continent as well as
a way to trade with others.
One of the most
helpful sections of The Sea is Aquarium
DIY which actually spun off onto it's
own site, you can find it by following
the link. I have compiled over100 reef
aquarium DIY plans from very advanced to
perfect for beginners. The compilation
covers calcium reactors, protein skimmers,
meters, chillers, feeders, reef lighting
and much more.
One of favorite topics,
The Sea Angler Fish.
The deep sea anglerfish reproduces in
an interesting way that is very unusual.
The difference in size of the deep sea
fish male and female is substantial. The
male is actually smaller than the female
and is black and about the size of a little
finger. When the male deep sea angler fish
becomes mature it can no longer
feed by itself because its digestive system
stops working. At this point there are
two options, die or find a female angler
fish.
Live Coral Farm Project,
one of the most rewarding hobby experiences
of my adult life. I have put together a
small site about building my live coral
farm as a block greenhouse on a small piece
of property. The Live
Coral Propagation site covers everything from erecting the
building, heating and cooling to picking
wave making devices.
After spending a few years in the hobby
and having established a good number of
dives under my belt I wanted to create
something unique with the diversity and
zonation I saw when diving on coral reefs.
500 Gallon Reef
Aquarium is a small site
I built in dedication to a multi-zone reef
system I built in early 2000. The system
included an upper reef crest, mid reef
ledge, lower reef, back reef and a refugium
lagoon. It was a great learning experience
and I had tremendous fun in the build and
during the hours of reading and sipping
espresso in front of the tanks. Check out
Reef Aquarium for the full story.
After a few years of live
coral propagation and importing a wide
diversity ofspecimens, I decided to put
together a small coral
reef picture gallery.
The gallery is a compilation of some of
my best specimens, as well as a species
identification guide. Also included are
some interesting articles on scuba diving.
Check out the collection of coral reef
photos.
